Fidel Lolo Romero

I was born in Madrid in 1983. I studied Biology at University of Alcala de Henares and a master in Molecular Biology. I did my phD with Dr. Moreno Lampaya at CNIO. Since February 2012, I work as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Miguel Ángel del Pozo, studying how cells transduce external physical cues into signalling pathways.

 

José Manuel Alfonso Almazán

I obtained my BSc in biotechnology at Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2014. Then, I moved to Madrid to do my MSc in Pharmacological Research at UAM and joined David Filgueiras’ Lab, where I am currently doing my PhD. I am interested in ion channels, electrophysiology and bioinformatics. I study the regulatory networks and molecular pathways involved in atrial fibrillation and its process of chronification.

 

Amanda Sánchez López

I graduated in Biotechnology (2013) and I did a Master`s in Molecular Biomedicine. I started in Cigudosa J.C’s Lab at CNIO to perform my undergraduate thesis project and also my Final Master`s project. My main interest is to understand the molecular basis of aging and its relationship with cardiovascular disease thus, I joined Vicente Andrés lab to do my PhD.

 

Paula Ortiz Sánchez

Hi! I graduated in Biotechnology in 2013 by the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville. Then I moved to Madrid to study a Master in Molecular Biomedicine. Since 2014, I’m doing my PhD at CNIC studying the role of the splicing factor SRSF3 in heart homeostasis and disease.

 

Raquel Rouco

I am from Madrid. I started researching on genetics at UCM where I got my BSc in Biology (2013). After that, I joined M. Manzanares’ lab (CNIC) to study the gene regulatory network underlying atrial fibrillation, first during my Master’s project and right now, as a PhD student thanks to FPU fellowship.

 

Álvaro Macías Martínez

I got my degree in Biology in 2009 and after a Master in Molecular and Cellular Biology I started my PhD in Cardiovascular Electrophysiology as a JAE-predoc. After a short postdoctoral stay in Dr. Catterall’s laboratory, in Seattle, I joined Dr Vicente Andrés’ lab at CNIC to study the electrophysiological alterations in Progeria (HGPS). PhDay is a wonderful chance to know and talk about everything not specified in a book or paper.

 

Cristina Giménez

I studied Sociology and Marketing at the University of Alicante. Then, I decided to carry out a MSc in Marketing at ICADE Business School and I completed my education with a  Post-graduate Degree in Strategy and Marketing at the London Business School. After that I started to work in Marketing, Communication and R+D.

 

Álvaro Sahún Español
Scientific Program

I obtained my BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University Rovira i Virgili in 2014 after performing my final degree project in the National Hospital of Norway (Rikshospitalet, Oslo). After that, I came to Madrid and joined the National Center of Cardiovascular Research. My interests are focused on therapeutic approaches for cardiac regeneration after myocardial infarction, specifically boosting a correct revascularization.

 

Antonio Quílez Álvarez

I am a Materials Engineer, who is back in Madrid at the Cellomics Unit of CNIC. During my PhD as a Marie Curie fellow of the ITN-Biopol, I am screening the mechanical signaling between cells and the extracellular matrix and how it affects disease progression. Previously, I finished my Master’s in Nanobiotechnology at Aalborg University in Denmark.

 

Víctor Fanjul Hevia

I am from Oviedo, where I studied Biology and a Master’s in Molecular Oncology. I am currently doing a PhD at the UAM with a “La Caixa” fellowship. I study heart disease in progeria and aging under the supervision of Vicente Andrés (CNIC) and Carlos López-Otín (U. Oviedo). I believe communication, teaching and networking are essential to succeed in science.

Hi! I obtained my degree in Biochemistry at University of Seville (2015). After that, I moved to Madrid to study a MSc in Molecular Biomedicine at Autonomous University of Madrid. In 2016, joined Dra. Ricote´s group (CNIC) where I am currently doing my PhD in cardiovascular metabolism. Specifically, I am interested in characterizing the regulatory role of Retinoid X Receptor not only in cardiac homeostasis but also in heart disease.

 

Carla Huerta

I am a Biotechnologist from Asturias. After obtaining my Bachelor Degree I moved to Madrid to carry out a MSc in Cell Biology and Genetics at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Complutense University of Madrid and University of Alcalá de Henares. Now, I’m a PhD student at Dr. Jorge Alegre’s lab (CNIC) focused on understanding the mechanical properties of the cardiac muscle through the study of smart biomaterials that mimic those properties.

I obtained my BSc in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at University of Valencia. Then, I moved to Madrid to study a Master in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at Complutense University. To carry out my Master thesis I joined Dr. Jorge Alegre’s lab (CNIC), where I am now doing my PhD on the characterization of the molecular basis of the disease hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

 

Leticia Herrera

I am from Madrid. I graduated in Health Biology at Universidad de Alcalá de Henares in 2015 and studied a Master in Molecular Biomedicine at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2016). After that, I started my PhD at Dr. Guadalupe Sabio´s lab at CNIC, trying to understand the role of stress-activated protein kinases in obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes and hepatic cancer.

 

Katerina Tsilingiri

I studied Biochemistry and Biotechnology in the University of Thessaly, in Greece. After that I worked for a couple of years in Madrid, until I was given the opportunity to carry out a PhD in Milán funded by a Marie Curie fellowship. I stayed in Milán for three years and then moved to Madrid to join Prof. Pilar Martin’s group in the CNIC, where I have been for the past three years. My research background is Immunology,  investigating the immune response in different cardiovascular diseases.

 

María García

I obtained my BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Seville in 2014. After that, I came to Madrid to carry out a MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid. During the final degree project, I joined Dr. Del Pozo´s lab at CNIC where I’m now a PhD student focused on understanding the changes in the caveolar interactome upon mechanical stress.

 

Briane Laruy

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Biology.  Then, I did my MSc in Cardiovascular Research in the University of Sheffield where I became interested in the field of Cardiovascular Biology. Currently, I am doing my PhD in CNIC in the group of Rui Benedito where I study the Role of Notch in the development of the hematopoietic system using a 3D imaging approach.

 

Macarena Fernández

I obtained my degree in Biotechnology at the University of Pablo de Olavide in Sevilla. Then in 2015 I moved to Madrid and I did my  MSc in Molecular Biomedicine at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. That year I joined Dr. Rui Benedito’s laboratory at CNIC and I started my PhD, studying the molecular mechanisms involved in blood vessel quiescence.

 

Antonio Martínez

I studied Biotechnology at the University of Murcia. In my last year, I moved to Canada carry out  my BSc Honour Thesis at Dr. Liang’s Lab, at Brock University. After that, I came to Madrid to study a MSc in Biomedicine at Complutense University. Now I am  doing my PhD at CNIC in the group of Pura Muñoz-Canoves, studying the role of myeloid cells, as macrophages and dendritic cells, in the resolution of skeletal muscle and heart regeneration.
